NEW YORK — LeBron James called it “everything” to step on the Madison Square Garden floor after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 112-100 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday night, the club’s only visit to Manhattan this season.

The 41-year-old forward finished with 22 points, five rebounds and six assists, shooting 9-for-15 from the field. Despite his efficiency, a sluggish third quarter doomed Los Angeles, which dropped to 0-1 on its current road swing.

“The mecca of basketball”

Speaking postgame, James emphasized the historic weight of performing at MSG.

“It’s the mecca of basketball here in New York City,” he said. “So many people—basketball players, entertainers, actors, musicians—have walked this court. I hope I left a little dent from a visitor’s perspective.”

James added that the Garden’s atmosphere remains “always electric,” noting the league’s scheduling quirks that frequently place his appearances in New York on weekends.

Praise for knowledgeable fans

The four-time NBA champion also credited Knicks supporters for their understanding of the game. “I’ve always loved these fans,” he said. “They know when they see something special, and I give my respect back.”

All-Star nod adds to milestone season

Earlier in the week, the NBA named James an All-Star reserve for the 22nd time, extending his record for selections. The veteran, set to become a free agent this summer, called the honor “blessed” and “humbling.”

Whether Sunday marked his final appearance at Madison Square Garden remains uncertain, but his appreciation for the venue—and its audience—was unmistakable.
