Warriors Intensify Push to Trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Golden State Warriors have emerged as the most aggressive bidder for Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to league sources cited by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Sources told Siegel that owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. are willing to include any player except Stephen Curry in a potential deal. Antetokounmpo is reportedly Golden State’s singular target as Thursday’s trade deadline approaches; if negotiations stall, the Warriors intend to hold their prime assets and renew talks during the offseason.

Siegel reports that Milwaukee has not dismissed the Warriors’ latest proposal. Bucks general manager Jon Horst and his staff are said to be intrigued by the volume of future draft capital Golden State is offering, though no verdict is expected until the final 24 hours before the deadline.

If Antetokounmpo finishes the season in Milwaukee, league insiders believe forward Jonathan Kuminga is unlikely to be moved before Thursday. Golden State controls a $24.3 million team option on Kuminga for 2026-27 and may prefer to keep him as an offseason trade chip.

The Warriors have also inquired about Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. and Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III, but Siegel indicates a trade for either player remains improbable this week.

Siegel adds that Draymond Green—not Jimmy Butler—is increasingly viewed around the league as a possible component of an Antetokounmpo package. A rival executive told Siegel that Green might be open to the idea, decline his $27.6 million player option for next season, and then attempt to re-sign with Golden State in free agency. That same executive believes contending teams would be willing to surrender a first-round pick for Green over the season’s final months, potentially helping the Warriors amass additional assets to acquire Antetokounmpo.

The trade deadline is Thursday.
