The Cleveland Cavaliers will have to decide quickly what to do with two-way forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin as the NBA trade deadline approaches on Thursday.
The club’s pending deal that sends DeAndre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder, along with the anticipated arrival of two-way forward Emanuel Miller from the Chicago Bulls, would leave Cleveland’s 15-man standard roster full. The Cavaliers have also placed two-way wing Luke Travers on waivers.
Tomlin, 25, has become a regular part of head coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s rotation in his second season. At 6 ft 8, he has appeared in 39 games, averaging 6.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and shooting 48.6 percent from the field. Two-way contracts allow a maximum of 50 NBA games, meaning Tomlin is closing in on that ceiling.
Team sources told Hoops Wire the Cavaliers intend to convert Tomlin to a standard contract, but the move cannot be finalized until a roster spot opens—either through another trade before Thursday’s deadline or by waiving a player afterward.
Club executives are still fielding calls, and no final decision is expected until trade activity subsides. Unless plans change dramatically, Tomlin is expected to join the 15-man roster once space becomes available.
