The Los Angeles Lakers upgraded guard Austin Reaves to questionable for Friday’s game against the Washington Wizards, according to the club’s latest injury report.

Reaves, 27, has been sidelined since Dec. 25 with a Grade 2 strain of the left gastrocnemius, the primary muscle in the calf. The fifth-year guard had already missed 17 consecutive contests—and 23 overall—after previously dealing with a mild strain in a different section of the same calf earlier in December.

Before the injury, Reaves appeared in 23 games, averaging 26.6 points, 6.3 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 35.3 minutes while shooting 50.2% from the field, 36.5% from three-point range and 87.3% at the free-throw line. Los Angeles is 15-8 with him in the lineup and 13-10 without him.

Head coach JJ Redick said two weeks ago that Reaves was progressing well and expected to return at some point during the Lakers’ current eight-game road trip.

The injury report also lists star guard Luka Doncic as questionable for Friday because of left ankle soreness after slipping off the raised court in Wednesday’s loss at Cleveland.
