Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James took to social media on Aug. 24, 2025, to applaud Tommy Fleetwood for winning the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, the season-ending event on the PGA Tour.
Fleetwood, 34, clinched his first PGA Tour title in his 164th start, pocketing $10 million from the tournament’s record $40 million purse and lifting the FedExCup trophy. During the final round, James live-tweeted encouragement—“What a start so far by Fleetwood! Feels like today is the day”—before posting a celebratory message once the Englishman closed out the three-shot victory: “Congrats and 🏆 @TommyFleetwood1!!! That first one feeling is something else! Especially after dealing with adversity and shortcomings.”
The NBA star, who turns 41 during the upcoming season, recently adopted golf as an offseason hobby while preparing to play on an expiring contract with the Lakers in 2025-26. James has shared updates of his own swing progress and previously shouted out world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler after one of Scheffler’s tour wins.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, an accomplished amateur golfer, has publicly praised James’s rapid improvement on the course, and the two All-Stars have discussed arranging a future round together.
Fleetwood’s breakthrough resonated with James, who needed nine NBA seasons to secure his first championship in 2012. With one victory now secured, the six-time Ryder Cup player will look to build on his Tour success when the 2026 PGA Tour campaign begins.
