The Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat have engaged in preliminary trade conversations centered on sending forward Andrew Wiggins back to the Bay Area, according to reports from Jake Fischer of The Stein Line and Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Wiggins, the former No. 1 overall pick, landed in Miami last season as part of the Jimmy Butler megadeal. With Butler sidelined by an ACL tear and the Warriors evaluating options on the wing, Golden State has revisited the idea of reacquiring the 29-year-old Canadian.

Possible Framework

League sources told Siegel that the Warriors still view Wiggins as a reliable two-way fit. Any proposal is expected to start with Jonathan Kuminga, whose future in San Francisco has become less certain and who has drawn interest from the Heat.

Key Obstacles

Draft compensation: Miami is reportedly seeking at least one first-round pick in return, and it is unclear whether Golden State is willing to meet that price.

Salary matching: Wiggins is owed $28.2 million this season. Kuminga’s $22.5 million salary alone does not balance the deal, and the Warriors, already pressed against the second apron, would have to add contracts to comply with cap rules.

Broader Considerations

Both franchises have been linked to potential pursuits of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Miami is thought to prefer holding Wiggins’s contract as a trade chip for a star-level acquisition, a factor that could slow current talks with Golden State.

No timetable for further discussions has been reported, and no agreement is considered imminent.
