Golden State forward Jimmy Butler will undergo an MRI after injuring his right knee during the third quarter of Monday’s home win over the Miami Heat.
The 36-year-old landed awkwardly on his right leg after being bumped in midair while receiving a pass from Brandin Podziemski. Heat guard Davion Mitchell was whistled for a foul on the play. Butler cried out in pain and remained on the floor for several minutes before teammates Moses Moody and Gary Payton II helped him to the locker room. He was unable to put weight on the injured leg.
“Praying for the best, as far as scans,” Stephen Curry said after the game.
Prior Knee Issues
Butler has dealt with significant right knee problems in the past, including a torn meniscus in 2018 and an MCL sprain in 2024.
Season Performance and Team Outlook
Before Monday’s contest, the five-time All-NBA swingman was averaging 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting .519 from the field, .381 from three and .862 at the foul line across 37 appearances (31.4 minutes per game).
Golden State improved to 25-19 with Monday’s victory, finishing a 6-1 homestand. Butler is under contract through the 2026-27 season, earning $54.1 million this year and $56.8 million in 2025-26.
Further details on the severity of the injury will be available after the MRI results are released.
