Heat’s Tyler Herro Expected to Miss Entire Five-Game Road Trip With Rib Injury

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is projected to sit out the team’s upcoming five-game road swing after an MRI revealed a costochondral injury on the right side of his ribs, The Miami Herald reported.

Herro did not accompany the club to San Francisco for Monday night’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors and is unlikely to appear at any point during the trip, which concludes next week. The 25-year-old, who turns 26 on Tuesday, had already missed Saturday’s victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, making Monday his second consecutive absence.

The seventh-year guard has been limited to 11 games this season because of offseason ankle surgery, a toe contusion, and now the rib issue. Despite the interruptions, he is averaging 21.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steal while shooting 49.7 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from three and 90.2 percent at the free-throw line in 31.7 minutes per game.

Costochondral injuries occur at the joints where ribs meet cartilage and are typically managed through pain tolerance rather than surgical intervention. The Heat have not provided a formal timetable for Herro’s return.

In more encouraging news for Miami, starting point guard Davion Mitchell (shoulder) and sixth man Jaime Jaquez Jr. (knee) are both listed as probable for Monday after sitting out the previous two contests.

Miami enters the road trip with a 22-20 record, holding the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
