Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. is not actively pursuing a trade, but he is looking for a clearer picture of the organization’s plans, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported.

“He doesn’t necessarily want out,” MacMahon said on a recent broadcast. “He just wants to understand what the plan is.”

The uncertainty comes as teammate Ja Morant dominates leaguewide trade discussions. Any move involving Morant could raise questions about the Grizzlies’ broader strategy and whether Jackson, 24, might eventually become available.

Jackson is owed $35 million this season and remains one of the NBA’s top two-way big men, averaging 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks while shooting efficiently from both the field and beyond the arc. He is a two-time All-Star and the league’s 2022–23 Defensive Player of the Year.

Memphis sits 10th in the Western Conference and has won just one playoff series since pairing Morant and Jackson in 2019. That track record has prompted speculation about a potential roster reset.

Rival teams are monitoring the situation. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons have expressed interest in Jackson, though the Grizzlies have indicated they intend to keep him as a cornerstone.
