San Francisco — Ayesha Curry revealed that her husband, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, originally hoped to become a high school basketball coach before his NBA career took off.

Speaking on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast released this week, the 36-year-old entrepreneur told host Alex Cooper she “didn’t know that he was going to end up playing basketball” professionally when they first met. “He said he wanted to be a high school basketball coach,” Ayesha recalled.

The couple’s relationship began in 2003, turned romantic in 2009 and led to marriage in July 2011—four years before Golden State captured its first title of the Stephen Curry era. They now have four children.

Ayesha admitted she “hated” the spotlight that accompanied Stephen’s rising profile early in their marriage. She also remembered advising him to remain at Davidson College instead of entering the 2009 NBA draft. Curry ultimately declared and was selected seventh overall by the Warriors. “He ended up finishing anyway and has gone on to do tremendous, incredible, cool s— that we never thought would happen, so it’s great,” she said.
