Warriors Still Eyeing Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. as Trade Deadline Nears

With the Feb. 5 trade deadline three weeks away, multiple league executives continue to connect the Golden State Warriors to Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., according to league sources.

Porter, 25, is delivering career-best production in his first season with Brooklyn, averaging 25.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He is shooting nearly 49 percent from the field and better than 40 percent from three-point range on high volume, solidifying himself as the Nets’ primary scoring option.

Scouts told Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal that Porter’s value lies in his ability to score efficiently without dominating the ball. “You can put him anywhere and he helps,” one scout said, citing the forward’s previous fit alongside Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray in Denver.

Golden State’s interest is described as serious, though largely kept quiet. The club is known for operating under the radar before making aggressive moves.

Any potential trade is expected to be complex. Around the league, executives believe a Porter deal could involve multiple teams, with Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga potentially headed to a third destination. Kuminga’s contract, which carries a team option for 2026-27, is viewed as a flexible asset. The Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks have been mentioned as teams to watch in those discussions.

Brooklyn is under no pressure to act quickly. Porter is signed through the 2026-27 season, and the Nets already possess significant draft capital, giving them leverage to wait for the right offer.
