LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams closely monitoring Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga ahead of the trade deadline, according to multiple league sources cited by Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal.
A recent change in Kuminga’s trade eligibility has intensified discussions that had already been taking place behind the scenes. The 21-year-old has also asked to be moved, further stoking interest.
Kuminga is in the first season of a two-year contract valued at roughly $46.8 million and carries a $24.3 million team option for 2026-27. The deal’s flexibility appeals to rival front offices looking for options rather than long-term commitments during deadline negotiations.
League sources told Afseth that Golden State prefers to receive expiring or other short-term contracts in any potential package for Kuminga, narrowing realistic partners to clubs able to send out clean salary matches.
The Lakers meet that requirement and have the payroll room to aggregate and redirect contracts. Sources added that Los Angeles remains focused on adding athletic, defensively versatile wings to complement star guard Luka Doncic — qualities Kuminga provides.
The Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings have also been keeping tabs on the situation. While Sacramento’s past inquiries are still considered genuine, the Kings’ limited assets could hamper their ability to make a competitive offer. Neither Dallas nor Sacramento is currently viewed as the frontrunner for Kuminga.
No deal is believed to be imminent, but if the Warriors initiate formal talks, the Lakers are expected to be ready to engage.
