Conflicting reports have emerged about whether the Golden State Warriors are pursuing Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
ESPN and The Athletic reported that no substantial talks have taken place between Golden State and Brooklyn. Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area echoed that position, saying the Warriors have shown only limited interest and that league-wide demand for Porter may be overstated. Johnson added that any potential transaction would likely need a third team because the Nets are not interested in acquiring Jonathan Kuminga.
However, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com cited sources who insist the Warriors are indeed exploring a deal and “have something brewing” before the deadline. According to Afseth, Porter is producing the best season of his career in Brooklyn and is viewed by scouts as an easy fit for multiple contenders.
Lakers Monitoring Kuminga
Both Johnson and Afseth report that the Los Angeles Lakers remain a serious suitor for Kuminga, who requested a trade on Thursday—the first day he was eligible to be moved. Johnson’s sources say Lakers president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka values Kuminga as an athletic wing capable of complementing Luka Doncic, though an in-season trade between the Pacific Division rivals is considered far from certain.
Raptors Taking an Opportunistic Approach
Toronto is regarded as a potential buyer, yet Afseth’s sources describe the franchise’s stance as “opportunistic” rather than aggressive. The Raptors have been loosely linked to high-profile names such as Anthony Davis, Domantas Sabonis and Ja Morant, all of whom have faced notable health issues this season.
Rockets Not Panicking Amid Skid
Despite recent struggles, the Houston Rockets are not rushing to make changes. Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports reports that Houston has discussed trade concepts with roughly half the NBA, but no deal is imminent and the front office is not actively seeking major upgrades. Rival clubs have asked about Tari Eason, Clint Capela and Dorian Finney-Smith, Iko added.
The NBA trade deadline is set for Feb. 5, giving teams less than a month to finalize any moves.
