Free-agent guard Malik Beasley has re-entered the market after federal investigators cleared him of wrongdoing, and the New York Knicks are among the clubs pursuing the high-volume shooter, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
The Knicks hold one open roster slot and had already researched Beasley’s situation, SNY’s Ian Begley reported on X. New York has also weighed Landry Shamet and Ben Simmons for the vacancy, though the level of interest in Simmons remains uncertain.
Beasley averaged 16.3 points last season while hitting 41.6% of his 9.3 three-point attempts. He finished second league-wide in total made threes and was runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year despite starting only 18 games. Detroit previously offered the 28-year-old a three-year, $42 million deal before a gambling probe surfaced and the Pistons pivoted to Duncan Robinson. Begley noted Beasley is likely to command more than the veteran minimum New York can offer.
Warriors weigh Cody Martin after expected signings
Golden State is expected to add Al Horford, Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton once its contract impasse with Jonathan Kuminga is resolved. Fischer writes that the Warriors are also evaluating 6’5″ wing Cody Martin, who is drawing interest from multiple playoff teams. Martin, known for his defense and athleticism, may wait until training camps open before choosing a destination.
Timberwolves aim to retain Bones Hyland
Minnesota, with two roster spots left, hopes to re-sign 24-year-old guard Bones Hyland. After starting last season with the Clippers, Hyland appeared in four games for the Wolves, averaging 7.2 points on 38.8% three-point shooting in 11.1 minutes with Los Angeles. He would bolster a point-guard group led by 38-year-old Mike Conley and rookie Rob Dillingham, 21.
Cavaliers likely to keep 15th spot vacant
Cleveland also has two open slots but is not expected to carry a full 15-man roster when the season begins, Fischer reports. Facing a sizable payroll and luxury-tax hit, the Cavaliers plan to ink a non-guaranteed deal for the 14th position and leave the final spot empty.
