Mavericks weigh trade options as Anthony Davis, other veterans draw limited interest

Anthony Davis remains on the Dallas Mavericks’ trade block, but league sources say the franchise is not rushing to move the 10-time All-Star ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline, even after a hand injury sidelined him for at least six weeks.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported earlier this week that Davis is still being shopped. Fellow ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon later added that agent Rich Paul wants his client dealt before the deadline, though Dallas is reluctant to trade the 32-year-old center solely to shed his contract.

According to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com, the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors have been linked to Davis, yet neither club is close to finalizing a deal. One Western Conference executive told Afseth the Mavericks’ leverage “is materially worse” since the injury, adding, “I don’t think [Davis] has much of a market.”

Marshall viewed as keeper

Forward Naji Marshall is enjoying a career season and has surfaced in trade discussions, but Afseth notes there is a growing belief Dallas would prefer to keep the 28-year-old. Marshall earns $9 million in 2025-26 and $9.4 million in 2026-27 before he can test free agency.

Gafford’s stock slipping

Center Daniel Gafford, long considered one of the Mavericks’ top assets, is seeing his trade value dip because of ongoing right ankle issues. The 27-year-old has missed 13 games after first spraining the ankle on the opening day of training camp and is listed as doubtful for Saturday’s rematch with Utah. “It looks like he’s frequently playing through something,” an Eastern Conference scout told Dallas Hoops Journal.

Rookie No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg is also doubtful for Saturday with a left ankle sprain, per The Dallas Morning News.

Veteran market cool for Thompson, Russell

Veteran guards Klay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell are available, but sources say interest around the league is minimal. Thompson, 36, is owed $34.1 million this season and next; one Eastern executive believes he can still help a contender, though his salary remains a hurdle. Russell, shooting a career-low 29.5 percent from three and largely out of the rotation for the past month, holds a $6 million player option for 2026-27.

No deals appear imminent, and with the deadline less than three weeks away, Dallas continues to evaluate its options while monitoring the health of several key players.
