Former NBA guard Tomas Satoransky announced on Instagram that a lingering back injury will keep him out of EuroBasket 2025, which tips off next week.
“Those who know me understand what representing the national team means to me,” the 33-year-old wrote. “Because of my current health, I can’t help the guys the way I should, so I have to withdraw.” He added that he hopes to bid farewell to the national team on the court in the future and will support his teammates from Riga.
Satoransky, the No. 32 pick in the 2012 draft, logged 388 NBA regular-season games (182 starts) for the Wizards, Bulls, Pelicans and Spurs between 2016 and 2022, averaging 6.9 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 22.2 minutes. He returned to Europe in the summer of 2022 and has served as a key rotation player for FC Barcelona in the EuroLeague. He turns 34 in two months.
Barcelona teammate and fellow former NBA big man Jan Vesely will also miss the tournament while he continues to rehab injuries that hampered him during the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Czechia’s finalized 12-man roster is led by Atlanta Hawks guard Vit Krejci. The remaining players are Richard Balint, Jaromir Bohacik, Vojtech Hruban, Adam Kejval, Martin Kriz, Petr Krivanek, Tomas Kyzlink, Martin Peterka, Ondrej Sehnal, Martin Svoboda and Jak Zidek.
