The Dallas Mavericks have provided scant public information on Kyrie Irving’s recovery, but a report from Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal indicates the All-Star guard is not expected to miss the entire season.
Afseth wrote that there is “no indication” Irving will be shut down and that the most realistic scenario is a return sometime after the NBA All-Star break. The Mavericks’ first game following the mid-February pause is set for Feb. 20, falling just short of 12 months since Irving tore the ACL in his right knee on Mar. 3, 2025. While that date is not being treated as a target, it underscores Dallas’ patient approach.
Irving’s rehabilitation has progressed to full on-court workouts, where he is reportedly moving fluidly and changing direction without hesitation. Medical clearance has not yet been granted, but the consistent activity signals steady improvement.
“No timeline is going to be perfect. Just take your time,” Irving said earlier this season, a message that continues to guide the process.
Dallas enters Wednesday 12th in the Western Conference at 14-25. Since Irving’s injury on Mar. 4, the Mavericks have posted a 21-38 record, highlighting his absence.
The report also notes lingering uncertainty elsewhere in the league: Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is still evaluating treatment options for ligament damage in his left hand and has not decided whether to undergo surgery.
