MIAMI — The Miami Heat remain committed to Terry Rozier’s contract because the NBA has not received the materials it needs to consider voiding the deal, multiple reports say.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that federal investigators have yet to share the evidence linked to Rozier’s gambling-related case. Without that information, the league cannot revisit its earlier findings or take the same action it used last season to nullify Jontay Porter’s contract.
Given the uncertainty, Miami treated Rozier’s deal as fully valid ahead of his recent guarantee deadline. Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press noted that the Heat declined to waive the veteran guard, locking in his entire $26.64 million salary for the 2025-26 season.
The choice carried financial implications. Cutting Rozier would have created roughly $1.7 million in cap room, freed a second roster spot and enabled the club to add players without crossing the luxury-tax threshold. Instead, the organization opted to preserve roster flexibility, believing Rozier’s expiring contract could become a useful trade asset.
Rozier, 30, has not played since October after his arrest on federal gambling charges. He was placed on league administrative leave shortly thereafter.
The NBA continues to wait for access to the federal evidence before determining whether further disciplinary action is warranted.
