Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is expected to miss several weeks after tearing ligaments in his left hand during Thursday’s loss to the Utah Jazz, league sources said.

The 10-time All-Star arrived at the team facility wearing a sling and is seeking additional medical opinions, according to people familiar with the situation. If doctors recommend surgery, Davis could be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks.

Key numbers

Davis has appeared in 20 games this season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks. Dallas enters Saturday at 14-24, 12th in the Western Conference.

Impact on trade market

Before the injury, the Mavericks had quietly explored trade scenarios for Davis, with the Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors showing varying levels of interest, league insiders told Dallas Hoops Journal. That interest is expected to cool while Davis recovers, making a mid-season deal unlikely.

Davis is earning $54.1 million this year and becomes eligible in August for a four-year, $275 million extension—terms his representatives reportedly want included in any trade discussion.

The forward/center was spotted at Dallas’s shootaround in Chicago on Saturday morning, but the organization has not announced a formal timeline for his return.
