ORLANDO, Fla. — Veteran NBA official Bill Kennedy exited the court in a wheelchair Friday night after injuring his right leg early in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 103-91 victory over the Orlando Magic.
The incident occurred with about 2½ minutes remaining in the first quarter at Kia Center. Kennedy began limping while trailing a 76ers fast break, then hopped along the baseline as Paul George scored a layup that trimmed Orlando’s lead to 22-20. Moments later, with the Magic calling a timeout, Kennedy signaled for help.
Medical staff attended to the referee on the court for several minutes before escorting him off in a wheelchair. His departure left James Williams and Michael Smith to officiate the remainder of the game.
