Dallas Mavericks big man Anthony Davis left Thursday night’s 2-point defeat to the Utah Jazz after injuring his left hand late in the fourth quarter.
The mishap occurred while Davis was guarding Lauri Markkanen on a drive with a little more than two minutes remaining. Despite obvious discomfort, he initially signaled to the bench that he could continue, The Dallas Morning News reported. Moments later, he checked out with 2:08 on the clock and did not return.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon noted that the 30-year-old center was doubled over in pain in the tunnel shortly after leaving the floor. Head coach Jason Kidd confirmed the nature of the problem but offered no timetable. “He hurt his left hand. That’s all we had,” Kidd told reporters.
Davis finished the night with 21 points, 11 rebounds and four assists across 35 minutes. The loss dropped Dallas to 14-24.
The Mavericks were already shorthanded and were dealt another blow when guard Brandon Williams exited early due to illness. Williams logged just under nine minutes and scored two points after averaging 19.0 over his previous five outings.
The club did not immediately release an update on Davis’s condition.
