Wake Forest University announced Thursday that Steve Weinman, a 13-year veteran of the Chicago Bulls front office, has been hired as general manager for the Demon Deacons’ men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Weinman will also serve as senior associate athletics director for analytics. In his dual role, he will work with both head coaches on roster construction, handling areas such as recruiting strategy, transfer-portal evaluations, and resource allocation.

The executive joined Chicago in 2012 as a basketball operations assistant and climbed the ranks to assistant general manager and vice president of basketball strategy and analytics. His duties with the Bulls included salary-cap management, scouting of professional and amateur talent, and oversight of the team’s analytics department.

Weinman is the latest NBA staffer to shift to college athletics as programs expand their professional infrastructure. In a similar move earlier this year, former Atlanta Hawks general manager Wes Wilcox left a front-office post with the Sacramento Kings to become GM at the University of Utah.
