LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville on Thursday unveiled a new basketball uniform designed by former Cardinals star Donovan Mitchell, now with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The all-red set features black side panels on the jerseys and shorts covered with a vinyl spider-web pattern, a direct reference to Mitchell’s longtime nickname, “Spida.” That web motif also outlines every letter and number on the jersey.

Mitchell’s custom “Spida” logo appears on both the jersey front and the shorts. Louisville’s traditional “dunking Cardinal” mark is placed on each side of the shorts as well.

Both the men’s and women’s programs will wear the new design. The reveal comes nine seasons after Mitchell last played for Louisville and nearly eight years after he entered the NBA as the 13th overall pick in the 2017 draft by the Denver Nuggets.

The guard first signed with Adidas in July 2017 and released his initial signature sneaker in December 2018. Thursday’s uniform incorporates several elements from that shoe line.

Louisville, ranked No. 20 nationally, is 11-4 this season after an 84-73 loss to No. 4 Duke on Tuesday.
