Mavericks Fielding Calls on Anthony Davis but in No Hurry to Deal

The Dallas Mavericks are taking inquiries from rival clubs about forward Anthony Davis, yet team insiders told Christian Clark and Sam Amick of The Athletic that the front office feels little urgency to make a move.

According to those sources, Dallas intends to monitor how Davis meshes with Kyrie Irving and rookie Cooper Flagg before deciding on any long-term course. Executives can envision scenarios in which Davis remains with the franchise for years, and they are not working under any public deadline to resolve his future.

Earlier reports indicated that Davis would like to stay in Dallas and sign an extension. While that desire “tracks,” per The Athletic, the Mavericks have not yet demonstrated a firm commitment to a new contract—something that has led to hesitation from Davis’s representatives at Klutch Sports, led by CEO Rich Paul.

League sources said Klutch is skeptical about the Mavericks’ willingness to authorize an extension and would welcome landing Davis with an organization more eager to negotiate a deal if Dallas remains non-committal. Nevertheless, no trade request has been submitted, and none is considered imminent.

Paul has reportedly urged the Mavericks to explore the market more aggressively rather than waiting for offers to arrive, leaving the club in a familiar stance—listening to proposals, assessing value, and maintaining leverage.
