Hawks Seek Trade Partner for Trae Young as Suns Shut Down Dillon Brooks Talk

The Atlanta Hawks are actively collaborating with Trae Young and his representatives to find a new destination for the four-time All-Star, according to Sam Amick and Josh Robbins of The Athletic. The 27-year-old guard, sidelined for five consecutive games with a right quad contusion, is reportedly looking for a contract that reflects his status as a franchise player.

Amick previously reported that Atlanta’s front office has been open to moving Young for several weeks after opting not to pursue an extension. League interest appears limited; a team source told The Athletic that the Sacramento Kings—long viewed as a logical suitor—are not pursuing the NBA’s reigning assists leader.

The Athletic adds that Zach LaVine, whose deal mirrors Young’s in structure, has expressed interest in joining the Hawks. In a separate scenario raised by Marc Stein, a framework that would send Young to the Washington Wizards and CJ McCollum to Atlanta is seen as unlikely because Young does not match the player profile preferred by Washington’s front office. Any Wizards involvement could require draft assets or a young prospect to absorb Young’s contract, which carries a $49 million player option for 2026-27.

Suns Firm on Dillon Brooks

Dillon Brooks is not expected to be traded by the Phoenix Suns, reports Gerald Bourguet of Suns After Dark. Bourguet said the organization values the veteran wing’s contributions on and off the court, a stance echoed minutes later by team governor Mat Ishbia. Appearing on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” former NBA center DeMarcus Cousins suggested the Los Angeles Lakers trade Austin Reaves for Brooks; Ishbia responded on X that Phoenix has no interest in such talks.

Deadline Watch

In a roundtable for The Athletic, Amick, Robbins and John Hollinger highlighted the league’s top question marks ahead of the February 5 trade deadline. They consider Giannis Antetokounmpo the most closely monitored star but view an in-season move as unlikely unless the two-time MVP asks out. The trio also debated whether the Dallas Mavericks will entertain offers for Anthony Davis and pointed to cost-controlled contributors—such as Wizards forward Justin Champagnie—who could boost contenders.

Mavericks Injury Complications

Separately, Christian Clark of The Athletic noted that Davis and Kyrie Irving had sought to pair up for years before a February 2025 trade finally united them. Their partnership lasted just two-and-a-half quarters before Davis suffered a left adductor strain; Irving tore his ACL less than a month later and remains without a return timetable. With both stars out, Dallas is expected to gauge interest in Davis as the deadline approaches.
