10-Day Contract Window Opens as G League Standouts Draw NBA Attention

NBA front offices are bracing for heightened roster movement after the league’s 10-day contract period officially began on Sunday. Teams can now sign players to standard 10-day deals, while Jan. 7 remains the final day to waive non-guaranteed contracts before they become fully guaranteed.
With those deadlines in sight, executives are zeroing in on G League talent. Keith Smith of Spotrac compiled a list of 23 players he believes have positioned themselves for NBA consideration, based on film study and conversations with executives, scouts and agents. The list features seven ball-handlers, 10 wings and six big men.
One name has already come off the market: guard Tristen Newton agreed to a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets.
Veterans back on the radar
Several players highlighted by Smith have prior NBA experience. Guards Kobe Bufkin, Killian Hayes and Dalano Banton; wings Kevin Knox II and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl; and centers Charles Bassey and Moses Brown all logged NBA minutes earlier this season.
Top early performer
Smith labeled 6-foot-7 forward Jalen Slawson the G League’s most complete player to date. Playing for the Indiana Pacers’ affiliate, Slawson is averaging nearly 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks per game while filling multiple roles on both ends of the floor.
Waiting for a first call-up
A handful of standouts are still seeking an initial NBA opportunity. Point guard Darius Brown II, swingman Teddy Allen and undrafted rookie wing Matthew Cleveland were specifically cited as prospects who have impressed but have yet to earn a call-up.
With the 10-day signing window open and the guarantee deadline approaching, movement is expected soon. Several of the players on Smith’s list could appear on NBA transaction logs in the coming days.
