Dallas — Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun left Saturday night’s road game against the Dallas Mavericks less than two minutes after tip-off because of a lateral sprain in his right ankle.
The injury occurred with 10:56 remaining in the first quarter when the 23-year-old landed awkwardly after securing a rebound in traffic. Houston called a timeout so he could be helped to the bench, and he did not return.
The Rockets ruled Sengun out for the remainder of the contest before the start of the second half.
Sengun, a first-time All-Star last season, is posting career highs of 22.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block per game.
Houston was already short-handed in the frontcourt. Backup center Steven Adams missed his second straight game with a right ankle sprain, leaving Clint Capela as the club’s only healthy big man.
