Nikola Jokic’s left knee injury, sustained Monday night during Denver’s loss to Miami, is expected to sideline the league’s top fantasy performer for at least four weeks. The two-time MVP is averaging 29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds and 11.0 assists, while leading the NBA in triple-doubles (16), total rebounds (389) and total assists (351).
Since Jokic’s first MVP campaign, the Nuggets are 264-132 with him and 13-23 without. This season, Denver owns a plus-12.6 net rating when he plays and a minus-4.0 mark when he sits, underscoring the fantasy ripple effect created by his absence.
Valanciunas steps in at center
Jonas Valanciunas opened the second half on Monday as Denver’s starting center and is rostered in only 23.5% of fantasy leagues. The veteran is posting 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 13.0 minutes this year, but his career averages jump to 16.1 points and 11.2 rebounds in games where he logs at least 25 minutes.
Point guard Jamal Murray also gains usage as the primary offensive option, while deeper formats can monitor rookie DaRon Holmes II. Holmes logged eight minutes against Miami and has dominated the G League with 20.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.
Black turns injuries into opportunity in Orlando
Rookie guard Anthony Black is averaging 37.0 fantasy points over Orlando’s past nine contests, trailing only Desmond Bane (37.8) and Paolo Banchero (40.0) on the Magic during that span. Black is available in 46.5% of leagues and has thrived while forward Franz Wagner misses time with a left high ankle sprain suffered Dec. 7. Wagner has not progressed beyond spot shooting and is expected to remain out through the rest of the current road trip.
Clingan’s minutes spike sparks Portland breakout
Portland center Donovan Clingan has averaged 31.4 minutes across his last seven games, producing 14.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks on 71.9% shooting. He has topped 38 fantasy points in five of those outings and recorded four double-doubles. Clingan is rostered in 61.5% of leagues.
Leonard returns to heavy workload in December
Kawhi Leonard averaged 36.4 minutes in December—the seventh-highest figure league-wide—after missing most of November. The forward exploded for a career-best 108 fantasy points against Detroit on Sunday and is averaging 72.0 fantasy points over his last four games with a 36.8% usage rate. Center Ivica Zubac is out a minimum of three weeks due to a Grade 2 left ankle sprain, further solidifying Leonard’s offensive role.
Gillespie delivers under-the-radar value in Phoenix
Collin Gillespie, rostered in only 55.3% of leagues, has averaged 32.4 fantasy points since entering Phoenix’s starting lineup in late November. Only Devin Booker has produced more for the Suns in that span. Gillespie continues to fill in for the injured Jalen Green (hamstring), supplying points, rebounds and assists while scoring at least 36 fantasy points in five straight games—two of them over 50.
