Utah Jazz veteran Jordan Clarkson publicly defended New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado, who was suspended for throwing a punch at a Phoenix Suns center during an on-court brawl.
“He did what was right,” Clarkson told reporters when asked about the altercation. The statement came after the NBA announced disciplinary action against Alvarado for his role in the fight.
The skirmish erupted during a Pelicans–Suns matchup, culminating in Alvarado swinging at the opposing big man. League officials reviewed the footage and issued a suspension to the Pelicans guard. Details on the length of the ban were not immediately disclosed.
Clarkson, known for his outspoken support of fellow players, said emotions can flare in competitive situations and reiterated his belief that Alvarado’s response was justified.
