Hypothetical trade idea would send Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen to Pistons

Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley has outlined a purely speculative trade scenario that ships Utah Jazz All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen to the Detroit Pistons.
Proposed terms
Pistons receive: Lauri Markkanen
Jazz receive: Tobias Harris, Jaden Ivey, rookie Ron Holland III, Detroit’s 2030 first-round pick and 2032 first-round pick.
Why the move was suggested
Buckley argued that Detroit, which owns the Eastern Conference’s best record, could elevate its ceiling without altering its size or defensive identity by adding the 7-foot sharpshooter. Markkanen is averaging 27.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 0.4 blocks while shooting 47.1% from the field, 34.6% from three and 89.7% at the free-throw line. He is earning $46.4 million this season.
The writer called the fit “overwhelming,” noting that Markkanen’s shooting range and versatility could ease pressure on guard Cade Cunningham and improve floor spacing.
Likelihood remains slim
Multiple league sources told Hoops Wire that Utah is not pursuing a Markkanen trade, and the 26-year-old forward has not sought a move. Markkanen, who previously spent time with the Bulls and Cavaliers, has never appeared in a playoff game but has expressed satisfaction playing in Salt Lake City. He captured the NBA’s Most Improved Player award in 2023 and owns career averages of 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 0.5 blocks.
While the proposal is tidy on paper, there is no indication the Jazz plan to entertain offers for their leading scorer.
