SAN FRANCISCO — Dallas Mavericks forward-center Anthony Davis left Thursday’s Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors after experiencing spasms in his right groin early in the second quarter, the club announced.
The 10-time All-Star was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. A team official told ESPN’s Malika Andrews that Davis is being sidelined “out of an abundance of caution.”
The issue surfaced moments after Davis deflected a Stephen Curry pass to create a turnover. While sprinting in transition to receive a long outlet from Naji Marshall, Davis pulled up abruptly, and the ball sailed out of bounds. He limped directly to the Mavericks’ bench, and head coach Jason Kidd used a timeout to insert Daniel Gafford in his place.
Davis, 32, has battled assorted injuries in recent seasons, appearing in 56 or fewer games in five of the past seven years. He missed 14 straight contests in November with a left calf strain and has now sat out 16 games overall in 2025-26.
Since returning late last month, Davis has averaged 22.1 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 52.7% from the field, 35.0% from three and 74.1% at the foul line across 10 outings (31.7 minutes per game). Dallas is 8-7 when he plays and 4-12 when he does not.
The Mavericks have not provided a timeline for Davis’ recovery.
