Cavaliers show no signs of coaching shake-up as Kenny Atkinson retains job security

The Cleveland Cavaliers are resisting immediate changes despite a bumpy opening stretch that has already brought almost as many defeats as all of last season, league sources told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon.

Vardon reported that head coach Kenny Atkinson is not in danger of losing his position, contradicting recent speculation that his footing was growing unstable. While frustration is said to exist inside the organization, those familiar with the situation insist Atkinson’s job “is not in jeopardy.”

The same patient approach extends to the roster. According to the report, the front office wants to see the club at full strength before considering meaningful moves—a scenario that has yet to materialize. Max Strus has been out since August after foot surgery, and multiple other players have missed time as well.

Even so, executives, coaches and players are described as upset with the Cavs’ performance. Cleveland has reportedly turned down at least two recent trade proposals involving rotation pieces, signaling that management remains in evaluation mode rather than reaction mode.

For now, the plan remains intact, and Atkinson stays put as the Cavaliers look to stabilize their season once the roster returns to full health.
