The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially released two-way center Jesse Edwards, according to the NBA’s transaction log dated August 18 2025.
The decision had been anticipated since early August and became a formality after the 25-year-old signed a one-year deal last week with Melbourne United of Australia’s National Basketball League. With Edwards off the roster, Minnesota now has one open two-way slot; Rocco Zikarsky and Enrique Freeman hold the team’s remaining two-way contracts.
Edwards joined the Timberwolves in July 2024 as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse and West Virginia. He made two brief NBA appearances but was a regular contributor for the G League Iowa Wolves, averaging 11.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 25.1 minutes across 34 games.
In late June, the 6-foot-11 center accepted a two-way qualifying offer that included an $85,300 partial guarantee. That amount will not impact Minnesota’s salary cap.
There is still no official word on Tristen Newton. The 24-year-old shooting guard is expected to accept his qualifying offer and return on a two-way deal after appearing in eight NBA games last season with Indiana and Minnesota.
