LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac left Saturday night’s crosstown matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers after spraining his left ankle late in the first quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game, the team announced.
Zubac crashed to the floor while contesting a play, then limped to the locker room moments after Brook Lopez checked in for him. He logged 11 minutes, finishing with five points and two rebounds.
“Zu is a dog, man,” Lakers center Jaxson Hayes said during the morning shootaround. “He’s, honestly, I feel like one of the most slept-on bigs in the league… Zu has been like that for years.” Entering the game, Zubac was averaging 16.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest.
The Lakers began the night 19-7, good for fourth place in the Western Conference. The Clippers, who finished fifth last season, started the evening 6-21 and last in the conference. Prior to tipoff, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue told reporters he challenged his club to close the season on a 35-20 run to preserve the franchise’s streak of .500 or better records, now at 14 consecutive years.
