The Golden State Warriors are actively shopping for a rim-protecting big man and have zeroed in on Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks, Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets and Robert Williams III of the Portland Trail Blazers, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes.

During an appearance on “NBA on Prime,” Haynes said the Warriors’ front office views the frontcourt as its most pressing weakness and is seeking “size and athleticism” to bolster rebounding, shot-blocking and interior scoring.

Why the urgency? Golden State ranks in the league’s lower half for rebounds and blocks and sits last in points in the paint. The team has opened the season 13-15, prompting concern inside the organization about returning to championship contention.

Haynes added that the Warriors are “really serious” about swinging a deal. Dallas is believed to be willing to move Gafford, while Indiana has also expressed interest in the 6-10 center, league sources told Haynes.

Golden State’s search continues amid a rocky start that even star guard Stephen Curry acknowledged, telling reporters after a recent loss that the Warriors “are not a good team right now.”
