ATLANTA — Victor Wembanyama extended his shot-blocking streak to 100 consecutive regular-season games Friday night, helping the San Antonio Spurs cruise past the Atlanta Hawks 126-98 at State Farm Arena.

The 7-foot-4 center logged a team-best 26 points, 12 assists and two blocks. The milestone rejection came with just over five minutes left in the third quarter when he turned back a drive by Dyson Daniels and sent the ball off the backboard. He added another block later in the period against rookie Asa Newell.

Wembanyama’s last regular-season outing without a block was on Jan. 10, 2024, against the Detroit Pistons. Only Patrick Ewing (145) and Dikembe Mutombo (116) have recorded longer streaks since the NBA began tracking blocks in 1973-74. Mutombo ranks second all time with 3,289 blocks, trailing Hakeem Olajuwon’s record 3,830.

The Frenchman has 51 blocks this season despite missing 12 games after straining his calf during a Nov. 14 loss to Golden State. He returned on Dec. 13, scoring 22 points in a 111-109 NBA Cup semifinal win over Oklahoma City.

San Antonio improved to 20-7, reaching the 20-win mark more than a month earlier than last season. The Spurs visit the Washington Wizards on Sunday before heading home to face the Thunder.
