The NBA has alerted all 30 franchises that it is revisiting measures intended to curb deliberate losing, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The renewed examination will explore possible changes to draft-pick protections, adjustments to the draft lottery, and other tools designed to reduce incentives for teams to finish at the bottom of the standings. While no timeline was given, the decision to reopen the discussion signals league concern over current rebuilding strategies.
New betting and injury-report rules
In a separate move, the league is introducing stricter policies tied to sports gambling. Teams must now resubmit injury reports on game days between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. local time and refresh those reports every 15 minutes thereafter. The NBA is also asking gaming operators to alter certain player-prop wagers by capping maximum bet sizes, limiting “under” options, reducing the number of eligible players, and eliminating props based on a single action during one play.
The dual initiatives underscore the NBA’s effort to protect both competitive integrity and its relationship with the betting market.
