Two men were taken into custody over the weekend after allegedly stealing Los Angeles Lakers rookie Adou Thiero’s SUV, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.
Deputies tracked the vehicle to the One Hotel in West Hollywood, where the suspects had reportedly parked the SUV with the hotel’s valet before entering the building. After reviewing security footage, officers identified and arrested 27-year-old Trey Rose and 27-year-old Samson Nacua, the brother of Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.
Both men were booked on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and remain in custody. Authorities have not disclosed where or when the SUV was originally taken, nor have they indicated whether Thiero had any prior connection to either suspect.
The incident adds an off-court distraction to Thiero’s debut NBA season, which began with a knee injury but has recently included his first rotation minutes. The 20-year-old wing is currently traveling with the Lakers for Thursday night’s game against the Utah Jazz.
Veteran Guidance
Earlier this week, veteran guard Marcus Smart said he has been encouraging Thiero to focus on defense and energy plays to earn consistent playing time. “Everyone comes into this league as a star, and then you have to adjust to the role you’re given,” Smart told reporters after practice.
