Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic avoided serious damage to his right elbow, the team said Tuesday, after an MRI showed only a contusion and laceration. He is listed as day-to-day.

Jovic was hurt late in the first quarter of Monday night’s 106-96 loss to the Toronto Raptors when he was fouled while driving to the basket. He landed hard, left the court with a splint-like support on his arm, and headed to the locker room for evaluation. Head coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters the elbow was bleeding and that Jovic temporarily “lost all feeling” in his hand because of a severe stinger.

The injury occurred just 12 seconds after the 22-year-old entered the game. Jovic is averaging 7.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists this season.

Guard Tyler Herro also underwent an MRI on a lingering right big toe issue that has kept him out of the past three games. The scan showed a contusion, and he remains day-to-day, according to the club.

The Heat open a three-game road trip Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets.
