Memphis Grizzlies swingman John Konchar has undergone surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, the team announced Monday.

The injury occurred on December 7 against Portland, where the 29-year-old logged two points, three rebounds and three steals in 17 minutes of a 23-point win. According to the club, Konchar is expected to make a full recovery and will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks.

Memphis first revealed on December 11 that Konchar would need a procedure, the same day the organization said starting center Zach Edey would miss at least four weeks. No definitive return date has been provided for Konchar beyond the “at least three weeks” timetable.

Now in his seventh NBA season, all with the Grizzlies, Konchar is averaging 3.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals in 13.0 minutes over 22 bench appearances. While not a primary scoring option, he owns a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 3-to-1, rebounds well for his position and posts strong defensive metrics, including some of the team’s best on/off figures in a limited sample.

The former undrafted free agent is earning roughly $6.2 million this season and carries the same cap hit for 2026/27.

The Grizzlies continue to battle a lengthy injury list that also includes Brandon Clarke (knee surgery), Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe surgery) and Ty Jerome (calf strain), none of whom have appeared during the 2025/26 campaign.
