The Boston Celtics have agreed to sign 25-year-old wing Ron Harper Jr., Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported.
Contract details were not disclosed, though the agreement is expected to be a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.
Harper was waived from a two-way contract by the Detroit Pistons on July 24. Undrafted out of Rutgers in 2022, he previously spent most of his professional career on two-way agreements with the Toronto Raptors before being released in December 2023. He later joined Boston for training camp but did not secure a roster spot.
The 6-foot-6 guard/forward signed with Detroit in January and appeared in one NBA game last season. In the G League, he averaged 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 37 games with the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics, shooting 38.6 percent from beyond the arc on more than eight attempts per contest.
Harper is the son of former NBA guard Ron Harper and the older brother of Dylan Harper, selected No. 2 overall by the San Antonio Spurs in last month’s draft.
