The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without Evan Mobley for at least the next two weeks after the forward was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain in his left calf, the team said Saturday.

The injury occurred Friday night in Washington, where Mobley reported tightness following the Cavaliers’ victory over the Wizards. An MRI taken Saturday morning confirmed the strain, and the club estimates his absence at two to four weeks.

Mobley has been one of Cleveland’s most reliable players this season, appearing in 25 of the first 26 games. The third-year big man is averaging 19.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting efficiently from the field. Defensively, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year anchors the paint with 1.6 blocks per game.

His injury further depletes a frontcourt already missing starting center Jarrett Allen, who has been limited to one game since Nov. 19 because of a right finger strain. Backup forward Larry Nance Jr. has not played since Nov. 28 due to his own calf strain.

With Mobley out, veteran center Thomas Bryant is expected to see increased minutes. Bryant has appeared in 19 games since signing with Cleveland in the offseason, averaging 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7.8 minutes.

The Cavaliers are 15-11 heading into their next game.
