The Chicago Bulls remain linked to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, while the Charlotte Hornets have stepped back from pursuing Chris Paul, and the New Orleans Pelicans have made rookies Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears off-limits, veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein noted in his latest newsletter.

Bulls

Stein wrote that Chicago has “repeatedly” shown interest in Kuminga, 23, dating to previous discussions that involved guard Alex Caruso and other pieces. Although Kuminga cannot be traded until Jan. 15, league sources told Stein the Bulls are still searching for young upside without committing to a full rebuild. Stein added that the Bulls have no real interest in targeting Lakers star Anthony Davis.

Hornets

Charlotte explored the idea of acquiring Paul during the offseason, but the veteran guard was reluctant to play far from his family in Los Angeles, according to Stein. As a result, the Hornets are no longer expected to pursue him. Paul, under contract with the Clippers, becomes trade-eligible on Monday, and Stein reported that the 38-year-old has grown more open to destinations outside Southern California as circumstances change.

Pelicans

Queen and Fears are now regarded as the Pelicans’ most untouchable players, Stein reported. That status previously belonged to Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones. While New Orleans may be more willing to entertain inquiries on Murphy and Jones, rival teams believe the asking price remains steep enough to discourage serious offers. For the time being, Queen and Fears are considered off limits while the front office evaluates its long-term direction.
