Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey has been scratched from Friday night’s matchup with the Indiana Pacers, marking his first absence of the 2025/26 season, the team announced shortly before tip-off.
Maxey, 25, was initially listed as probable, then downgraded to questionable and ultimately ruled out with an undisclosed illness. In 23 appearances this year, the sixth-year guard is posting career-best averages of 31.5 points, 7.2 assists and 4.7 rebounds while leading the NBA with 39.9 minutes per game. He is also contributing 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocks and shooting 46.7% from the field, 39.1% from three-point range and 88.1% at the free-throw line.
Head coach Nick Nurse will turn to Quentin Grimes to start in Maxey’s place, according to PHLY Sports. Former MVP Joel Embiid, who had been listed as probable because of left knee injury management, has been cleared to play.
Embiid, 31, missed nine straight games last month with soreness in his right knee and has appeared in three of the five contests since returning. The seven-time All-Star said he feels “pretty good” and hopes to log heavier minutes soon, though the club continues to restrict him from playing two games in three nights.
