Antetokounmpo Set to Join Greece’s Training Camp After Bucks Clearance

Greek national team head coach Vassilis Spanoulis confirmed Thursday that Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will begin full training with Team Greece this weekend as the squad prepares for EuroBasket 2025.

“He already had a contact session with some of our players. On Saturday, he will start training normally,” Spanoulis told reporters, according to Eurohoops.

Antetokounmpo, 30, had been waiting for written permission from the Bucks because his contract value exceeds FIBA’s standard insurance coverage. The delay kept him out of Greece’s first four exhibition games, where the team finished 2-2—posting wins over Belgium and Montenegro and losses to Israel and Serbia.

Greece will host Latvia, Italy, and France in the Acropolis Tournament in Athens from Aug. 20–24. The country’s EuroBasket group stage opens on Aug. 28.
