Knicks Say Miles McBride Will Miss Minimum of One More Week

The New York Knicks announced on Thursday that guard Miles McBride will remain sidelined for at least seven more days while he recovers from a sprained left ankle. The team plans to reevaluate him in one week.

McBride, 25, was hurt during the third quarter of Sunday’s victory over the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden. As he drove to the basket, he collided with Orlando wing Desmond Bane, and both players tumbled to the floor. Video of the play showed Bane’s left foot coming down on McBride’s lower left leg.

The injury kept McBride out of Tuesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal and will also sideline him for Saturday’s semifinal rematch with Orlando. Should New York advance, he would miss Monday’s NBA Cup championship game as well.

If the Knicks fall to the Magic on Saturday, the club will not play again until next Thursday in Indiana, potentially giving the third-year guard additional recovery time.

McBride has been a key rotation piece this season, starting nine of his 20 appearances and posting career-best averages of 11.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 27.0 minutes per game while shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range.

With McBride unavailable, head coach Tom Thibodeau is expected to lean more heavily on reserves Jordan Clarkson and Tyler Kolek behind starting point guard Jalen Brunson.
