HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets have no plans to pursue a trade for Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, according to a report Monday from Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Amick cited league sources who said general manager Rafael Stone remains committed to preserving the club’s long-term flexibility and is reluctant to pay what he views as an excessive price for a short-term fix. The stance has not changed even after veteran point guard Fred VanVleet was lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Houston sits at 15-6 and fourth in the Western Conference, leaning on offseason acquisition Kevin Durant, center Alperen Şengün, guard Jalen Green and a deep young rotation. The Rockets returned to postseason play last spring for the first time since 2020.

Morant, 26, has been sidelined by a right calf strain and has appeared in only 12 games this season, averaging 17.9 points and 7.6 assists. Memphis is 11-13 and ninth in the West.

The two-time All-Star is earning nearly $40 million this season and is under contract through the 2027-28 campaign.
