Toronto Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley has been ruled out of Tuesday night’s NBA Cup quarterfinal against the New York Knicks because of an illness, according to Newsday’s Steve Popper.
The late scratch deprives Toronto of its starting backcourt leader and compounds the club’s injury concerns. Forward RJ Barrett is already unavailable with a right knee sprain.
Rookie guard Jamal Shead, listed as questionable earlier in the day due to a right quadriceps contusion, has been cleared to play and is expected to absorb many of Quickley’s minutes. Fellow rookie JaKobe Walter should also see an expanded role.
Quickley has started all 25 games this season, averaging 16.5 points, 6.2 assists, 4.2 assists and 1.2 assists in 32.2 minutes per contest.
The winner in Toronto will advance to the NBA Cup semifinals later this week in Las Vegas.
