Pacers exploring Daniel Gafford as long-term center

The Indiana Pacers are evaluating Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford as a potential long-term answer in the middle, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. Gafford, viewed as a strong pick-and-roll partner for injured star guard Tyrese Haliburton, signed a three-year extension worth more than $54 million during the offseason and remains trade-eligible.

Indiana has multiple salary combinations that match Gafford’s $14.4 million cap number, including Obi Toppin ($14 million) or a package of Bennedict Mathurin ($9.2 million) and Tony Bradley ($2.9 million). The Pacers also retain all of their own future first-round selections and most of their seconds, providing additional flexibility.

Clippers working with Chris Paul on potential move

The Los Angeles Clippers plan to collaborate with veteran guard Chris Paul and his representatives at CAA to find a new destination, Fischer reports. Paul, 40, could be the most likely player moved when a wave of trade-eligible contracts opens on December 15.

While Paul prioritized staying near his Los Angeles home last summer, increased playing time may now top his list of requirements after his role shrank with the Clippers. Outside of a possible Paul trade, L.A. is not expected to pursue major moves immediately. Sources tell Fischer that Ivica Zubac, James Harden, and Kawhi Leonard are not considered trade candidates “for now.”

Maintaining salary-cap flexibility for 2027 remains a guiding principle for the franchise. The front office never offered Norman Powell an extension before sending him to Miami this past offseason, anticipating his asking price would approach $30 million annually, according to Fischer.

Warriors keeping tabs on Myles Turner

The Golden State Warriors continue to evaluate center Myles Turner—now with Milwaukee—as they gauge possible trade frameworks involving forward Jonathan Kuminga. Fischer notes Golden State previously held discussions centered on Kuminga, Buddy Hield, and Andrew Wiggins when Turner was still with Indiana.
