General manager Scott Perry is urging Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé to embrace a patient, multi-year overhaul of the roster, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

Amick said Perry is working to “convince” Ranadivé that turning the franchise around could take “three, four, or five years.” While Ranadivé has historically been hands-on with personnel moves, Amick added that the owner is not resisting a rebuild; Perry simply wants to ensure the approach remains “extremely patient and prudent.”

The roster remains in flux, with only a few young players—most notably forward Keegan Murray and rookie guard Nique Clifford—viewed as virtual locks for the club’s long-term plans, Amick reported.

Trade market notes

• Amick identified DeMar DeRozan as the most realistic in-season trade candidate among the high-profile names linked to Sacramento. Moving Zach LaVine or Domantas Sabonis would be tougher because of their larger contracts.

• Regarding Sabonis, Amick said the All-Star center is most effective when functioning as an offensive hub—an unlikely role for him on most potential landing spots. After recent conversations with Sabonis’s representatives, Amick noted that the player’s camp does not expect a deadline deal and is preaching patience.

• The Kings still have interest in Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, ESPN’s Marc J. Spears said Monday on “NBA Today.” Sacramento pursued Kuminga aggressively in restricted free agency last summer, reportedly offering Malik Monk and a first-round pick. Spears indicated that a future first may no longer be on the table.
